If You Give a Moose a Muffin (אם תתן לאיל גדול עוגה קטנה)

If You Give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Joffe Numeroff
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Category: Hardcover (available in English and Hebrew)

Hebrew Title: אם תתן לאיל גדול עוגה קטנה

Author's Name in Hebrew: לאורה ג`ופה נומרוף

Age: 1-6+ years

Synopsis: This book is part of a series that began with “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” This particular book tells the story of what happens when a muffin-munching moose comes to call: muffins are baked, sock puppets are sewn, a play is put on, and all manner of silliness ensues.

Bilingual benefit: The English version of this particular book is a great source of Americana for a child living abroad: a moose, fluffy sweaters, autumn leaves, and a reference to Halloween. The book also helps with distinguishing sounds distinctive to English, such as “moose” versus “mouse.” In addition, the moose uses the onomatopoeic expression “boo,” which always brings squeals of laughter from our toddler. I have not yet reviewed the Hebrew version but will update this post if we are able to find a copy.

Availability in Israel: While the English version of the book is not available in Israel, it can be ordered online via Amazon. Tzomet Sfarim currently advertises the Hebrew version on its website. (last checked 4/12/2014)

Previewing the book: The English version is available for preview on Amazon USA. In addition, I found someone reading the English version out loud on YouTube. (last checked 16/11/2014).

Lil guy: An all-time favorite.

Mama: Highly recommended. I would buy this again and for a friend. You may also want to check out my book reviews of Ms. Numeroff's “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” and "If You Give a Pig a Pancake."
