Tess had no intention of boarding Mauro's ship, so Hades and Black bid farewell to the old, dilapidated vessel and its crew.
Barry the Sky Lion chose to stay on Tees's ship, and Hades also hoped that the Space Marine would stay, as having a weak psyker by his side was obviously too much of a burden.
Moreover, even if the nobleman Tess might change his mind afterward, fearing the likes of the Inquisition and failing to fulfill his promise to Hades—Barry would still do it.
Hades liked the Sons of Dorne for that reason.
Hades had considered having Black join Tees's group in a warp jump out of this godforsaken star system, but later he thought it would be better to place Black on Mauro's ship.
It's safer to send two groups of people to spread the news of his return.
Although Blake might not be happy to do so.
Hades decided to do some psychological work with Blake after that.
But none of that matters. At this moment, Hades stood casually in the reception room of the Tarasque-class ship, looking around nonchalantly.
Blake glanced back subtly at Hades, the father of genes, whose behavior surprised him. He had expected Hades to treat this mortal lord with the same courtesy he had shown to Tess.
Blake was somewhat bewildered. Unsure how to act in accordance with the Father of Genetics' attitude, he simply answered the two nobles in front of him in a straightforward manner.
Before them stood Mauro, an obese nobleman who was almost completely curled up in fear on his throne, and another psychic man who wore the Inquisition's insignia around his neck but looked suspicious and was as thin as a rake.
Blake couldn't understand why Mauro was so terrified after seeing Hades that he refused to leave his throne and kneel.
Based on his understanding of these mortal nobles, these cowardly fellows would usually kneel down immediately, begging to save their lives and status.
However, Black felt a certain respect for another psionicist. Even when facing Hades (though they called themselves Hades' son, not directly referring to him as Hades), this mortal seemed to retain his reason and integrity.
He was even trying to go against the opinions of the two guests.
"We hope that Your Excellency can provide us with a ship so that we can leave. In addition, we hope that you can deliver a message to the Death Guard for us. Of course, the Legion will reward you handsomely, and you will have a more comfortable life than you did in the hive."
The psionicist grinned, revealing a mouthful of rotten teeth, and said...
"My lord, we can send you back to the Death Guard's territory."
Blake subconsciously glanced back at Hades, who was still looking around. Hades frowned slightly and stared at the reception room.
Although it was called a reception room, it was actually Lord Mauro's private room. It was clear that Mauro received the worship of the people and managed his subordinates in this room.
Compared to Mauro's pot-bellied appearance, the reception room was much more pleasing to the eye, with bookshelves rising from knee-high to the ceiling, densely packed with books.
Blake pondered the worn spines of the books, wondering if they were treasures left by the lord's predecessors, or simply items the lord used to show off his wealth.
After all, Mauro seemed quite wealthy—at least he was before he fled; Blake remembered that Mauro's family was a well-known wealthy family in this region.
"We do not need subspace travel for the time being."
Blake said, but then the psychic said something that surprised the child of the underworld.
The psionicist bowed slightly and said respectfully,
"In order to serve the two lords, we can temporarily refrain from warp jumps."
The lord next to him, who seemed to be stunned, hurriedly spoke up, "Yes, yes, yes, sirs from the Son of Hades warband, as long as you stay on my ship, it will be our great honor to serve you."
Blake frowned. This was different from what the Father of Genetics had envisioned. He wondered if Hades would be willing to command this ship.
However, Hades, who had been observing the room from behind, moved.
Ignoring everyone in the room, Hades walked straight to a bookshelf and pressed down on a blue book.
As if a button had been pressed, the book sank into the bookshelf.
Almost at the same time Hades took action, the psionicist suddenly shouted, the two mortals turned pale, and Blake even heard the footsteps of the guards outside, as well as a machine gun that suddenly came down in a corner of the house.
But Hades didn't even turn his head, and the psionicist and the nobleman slumped down together. A psionic shield even appeared on the nobleman's chair—but it was all in vain.
The first guard to rush into the reception room also fell straight down, crashing directly onto the floor.
Blake was certain the poor guy's nose was completely broken.
The machine gun in the corner spun a few times in the green arcs of electricity before finally bowing its head in dejection.
"Father?"
Blake turned to Hades, looking bewildered, and asked...
Hades ignored him and continued to walk around the bookshelf with complete concentration, pressing down on a book every few steps.
Soon, Blake realized that there was a secret room hidden here.
The people lying on the ground were not dead. The psionicist gritted his teeth, staring intently at Hades, uttering curses, while the pot-bellied lord was already crying in fear.
"All right."
Hades pressed the last book down, watching with satisfaction as the lord's throne suddenly moved, revealing the steps leading to the dark chamber below.
"……All right,"
Hades said, walking over and lifting the nobleman off the chair like a chick, "It seems this passage isn't very friendly to Hades's size?"
The screaming and cursing psychic suddenly shut up like a chicken with its neck choked.
Hades ignored him, slowly raising his hand and aiming it at the narrow, dark passage.
The moment he boarded the ship, Hades, who was scanning the entire ship through the Black Domain, immediately realized that something was wrong.
Unlike other ships, this vessel is equipped with a massive psionic circuitry, with circuits circulating abundant psionic energy throughout the entire ship, providing it with a powerful psionic shield.
The flowing psionic energy is so abundant that it can even keep the shield active at all times.
But when receiving them, Mauro deactivated the psionic shield.
Hades raised an eyebrow, green arcs of electricity crackling in his hand. In the flashes of light, the metal passage in front of him began to melt and expand.
Now, in the Black Domain's perception, the source of all psionic pathways converges in the secret chamber beneath their feet.
Runes and spells were intertwined, forming an extremely ingenious psionic array. One layer of psionic energy rippled through another. From the perspective of the Dark Domain, Hades sensed that this psionic energy was cleverly transformed and then used to power the fleet.
This might be a decent psionic array. Hades didn't understand psionic stuff, but he could at least see one thing—
This psionic array, which is continuously supplying power to the ships, must have a powerful psionic entity at its core, providing energy for the array.
The secret passage melted away, and amidst the horrified and desperate gazes of the mortals, Hades calmly stepped inside.
"Blake, keep watch outside."
Hades casually remarked that the passageway was dark and frost, generated by abundant spiritual energy, layered over the steps, and further down, the frost almost completely replaced the steps.
Hades remained silent. Amidst the layers of psionic energy, he felt a familiar sensation, but he couldn't immediately recall where it came from.
Which psionic species did he devour in the past?
Outside the secret passage, Hades' heavy footsteps faded into the distance. Black stood beside the psionicist, squinting as he sized up the mortal.
“I know what’s wrong,”
Blake suddenly crouched down, and under the psionicist's clenched teeth gaze, drew his dagger and hooked the Inquisition necklace around his neck.
“You’re not from the Inquisition,” Blake said. “You killed an Inquisitor?”
“More than one,” the psionicist sneered, then spat a mouthful of blood onto the ground. “You’ve been watching us for a while now?”
Blake shook his head, then glanced at the doorway again, where the unfortunate man lying face down on the floor was bleeding.
He wasn't worried about the guards rushing in at that moment; Blake believed in the power of the father of genes.
“I don’t know you,” Blake said honestly. “I’m guessing.”
Upon hearing Blake's reply, the psionicist in front of him suddenly began to convulse. Blake initially thought it was the activation of some kind of witchcraft—but he later discovered that the psionicist was simply trembling with anger and despair.
"How did you find out? The secret to opening this door is clearly hidden in nine different worlds," the psionicist twisted and raised his voice suddenly, "Sened told you?!"
Blake guessed that the name the psionicist was referring to was probably that of the inquisitor he had killed.
As for the nine worlds and such... Blake had heard of them. Some neurotic people (mostly psionicists) had a habit of hiding some kind of artifact and leaving a bunch of riddles for people to discover.
So, Blake suddenly perked up – Hades discovered a treasure?
What a pleasant surprise! He truly deserves to be the father of the son of Hades.
Seeing Blake's eyes light up, the psionicist cursed even more vehemently.
Blake frowned, glancing towards the direction of the secret passage. He certainly didn't want Hades to hear this.
And why is this psionicist so tenacious?
Blake thought to himself, “Shut up, wizard. I’ll only say this once.”
"How on earth did you find him?!"
The psionicist let out a hoarse, piercing scream. Blake immediately covered his mouth, hoping to say something before the psionicist lost consciousness, something to make him suffer even more.
Blake thought for a moment, recalling the strange things his comrades in the warband had said. King had recorded all the strange things Hades had said in his videos, and these words were successfully inherited by Hades' son.
Have you ever heard of... X-ray vision cheats?
Hades stopped.
In the empty hall, the ship's psionic pathways crawled all over the walls, twisting and converging here, like a thousand-year-old curse.
Eerie arcs of psionic electricity illuminated the armor, crackling and sputtering, interspersed with desperate howls and roars.
Countless chains, shimmering with blue and white light, extended from the outer ring of the autonomous magic circle, wrapping around the prisoner and seemingly inflicting great pain upon him.
The main magic circle flickered violently, brutally draining the prisoner's spiritual energy. Paper covered with blasphemous prayers wrapped around the nine pillars, which pierced down fiercely, penetrating the struggling being at the center of the magic circle.
Outside the main magic array, the corpses of countless soulless beings piled up, numbering at least several hundred. These skeletons were slowing the outflow of violent spiritual energy to prevent it from destroying the magic array.
Hades opened his eyes wide in surprise. In his dark pupils, he saw the figure lying paralyzed in the magic circle, howling in pain, and he also saw Hades.
Magnus struggled to reach out his hand to Hades.
Help...help me...
Hades was deeply shocked.
That's it! Great!
Chapter 562 Magnus?!
Hades, unable to comprehend it, was deeply shocked; his brain stopped functioning, his cerebellum atrophied, his brainstem disappeared, and his worldview collapsed.
The hellish scene did indeed touch him somewhat, but what truly shocked Hades was the crimson figure within the violent psionic array.
He really didn't expect to run into an acquaintance in this situation.
It was Magnus again.
In a daze, Hades saw the prison cell on the Imperial Dream from back then, with Magnus still imprisoned and standing outside the cell.
So was Magnus a traitor or not?
The moment Hades saw Magnus, he used his Dark Domain to scan the ship inside and out once more.
He was certain that there was nothing strange about the rest of the place except here, and within the magic circle, due to the spiritual energy accumulated over the years, Hades was temporarily unable to discern Magnus's condition.
Hades looked at Magnus and saw Magnus's face contorted in extreme pain. The magic circle was tormenting Magnus, the pain far exceeding the limits a Primarch could endure.
Could this be a conspiracy? An ambush?
Hades stared thoughtfully at the nine spirit pillars. This was clearly related to Tzeentch, who had sent Magnus to assassinate him.
No, Hades thought, now that he has enveloped this area with the Dark Domain, everything about Hades is darkness to Tzeentch. Can He really foresee every step?
If Tzeentch could truly foresee everything, then Hades wouldn't have turned the tables on the Dark Lord on Cadia.
Just as Hades was pondering, Magnus let out another piercing scream, a scream so painful it nearly shattered. Hades could see that Magnus's psionic energy was extremely unstable, causing the magic circle to become unstable—
He seemed to understand why the Lord of the Hive was so eager to invite Black, the son of Hades.
Hades glanced at the skeletons of the soulless ones.
Help—help me!
Magnus's desperate wail, like that of a drowning man, rang out again: "Or just kill me!!!"
Amidst countless violent arcs of psionic electricity, Magnus screamed, "Kill me!"
He had almost abandoned all his dignity—seeking only one release. Magnus stared at the figure outside the magic circle, and he saw an extremely indifferent being.
Magnus let out a mournful cry.
Believe me—Pluto—believe me.
