The Lord of Death said provocatively,
The Khan coughed.
【Motalian, what have you seen?】
The Khan's sharp words cut straight to the heart of the two men, serving as a wake-up call for Mortarian—he had gone too far.
Although he loathed all his brothers, Mortarian did not want them to experience what he had gone through. (Except for Conrad Coz, Magnus, and Peturabo)
But Mortarian quickly realized that the Khan knew something, and the fact that there were still rational people present helped Mortarian regain his composure.
The next curse that Mortarian was about to utter slipped from his lips, then he paused, finally letting out a sullen laugh.
I have seen things that are beyond imagination.
Mortarian spoke in a low voice, taking another swig of wine. He glanced at Luo Jia with disdain. In their friendly conversation just now, the Lord of Death had clearly realized that Luo Jia was nothing more than a devout empty shell. He was very devout, and even had a fanatical devotion—but he could never understand his so-called "god".
The gods he speaks of are merely projections of his own vision.
Mortalian scoffed at the twisted piety.
"...unimaginable things," Mortarian repeated, gripping the bottle, "I'm sure I've seen more, even compared to you."
He looked at Luo Jia, but all he saw was that charlatan radiating psychic energy and the silent Hades.
Behind Mortarian, Fugen stared blankly at the bottle in Mortarian's hand, muttering under his breath, "I've seen something unimaginable too."
The angel beside him smiled gracefully, then calmly took a sip of red wine.
Saint Gilles laughed, thinking that Mortalian probably hadn't seen the warp projection of the "commander" he mentioned either.
Luo Jia stared calmly at Mortarian.
You can't understand me, and I can't understand you either.
But I know the truth, and He chose me to reveal it. He is God, and our Father is God. This is the whole reason for my war.
He chose me, and I chose Him.
Motarian chuckled, but this time he said nothing more.
Because he couldn't be sure exactly how far the swindler had progressed in his calculations.
Then believe in your divine emperor—instead of deifying everything around him.
Luo Jia took a deep breath, just about to loudly refute Mortarian as nothing more than a blind man who was consciously covering his eyes, but the Lord of Death stood up and strode down from the stands.
【I have to go now.】
Only then did Luo Jia realize that the Death Guard team had already gone far away below the stands.
The speaker sighed with some frustration, but he remained steadfast, for he had witnessed the truth.
He turned to look at his other brothers. Angel was still drinking with Fugen, who looked somewhat disheveled, while Khan continued to admire the view from the stands as if he were an outsider.
Luo Jia got up dejectedly and decided to go see Magnus again.
--------
Saint Gilles slowly swirled the wine in his glass as the archangel pondered.
The Emperor tacitly approved of Luo Jia's views and allowed the Word Bearers to spread their religion, even though the Word Bearers had always done so before—but the Emperor and the Empire had always maintained an ambiguous and derogatory attitude towards it.
Now the emperor has acknowledged it.
The angel looked at the scarlet liquid and took a sip.
Unlike Dorn and Guilliman, he was not extreme. On his home planet Baal, Saint Gilles allowed, and even encouraged, the people to follow the religion he had established.
This was also one of the conditions he negotiated with the Emperor: the Emperor would allow the people of Baal to maintain their faith, while Saint Gilles would submit to the Empire.
However, the emperor did not discuss this matter with Horus, limiting his missionary work to those who cherished the word.
What does it mean when an angel rests his chin on his hand?
And what are the War General, the Silent Cult, and the Emperor plotting?
Something big is about to happen.
Saint Gilles thought silently, while most of his brothers were still immersed in the emotions of the announcement of the title of War General.
He idly swirled the glass again, and the angel thought of Mortarion. If the Order of Silence was closer to the Emperor's other side of the plan, then Mortarion, who was closely associated with the Lord of the Order of Silence, must also know something.
Motalian is pessimistic.
The angels could sense this; the Lord of Death was always on edge—what was he waiting for with dread?
And the Emperor's words to Horus: "Make more contact with the Order of Silent Retreat..."
Even the Silent Order was present during the burning of the Perfect City. Even though the Khan repeatedly confirmed with Loka that there was no subspace involved, if there really was no subspace, why would the Emperor send the Silent Order?
The Order of Silence, the Warp, the Burning of the Perfect City, the God-Emperor, the Emperor's Testament, the Warmaster, Mortarion's Vigilance...
The angel lowered his eyes, pondering the last piece of the puzzle.
Finally, he found it—
Saint Gilles is himself a deity in the Baal religion.
Saint Gilles was keenly aware of the power of faith, both for the believer and for the one being believed in.
Faith has power in the subspace.
Saint Gilles knew this, and like the Khan, he knew that the Empire's truth was nothing but a lie, because blasphemy truly existed within the Warp.
He drank the crimson wine in his glass in one gulp.
A catastrophe is imminent, coming from the subspace.
Saint Gilles uttered his judgment with a tremor.
If the Order of Silence cannot prevent that catastrophe, if scientific truth that blinds people cannot save them—then faith will be the only remedy.
The Emperor is making two preparations: the Order of Silence can fight against the psionic beings, while faith will be the best tool for mortals to resist them. But what if he has already prepared to convert a large number of mortals to religion...?
Then the angel said,
How many empires will ultimately perish in this catastrophe?
Does this include Horus?
Yes, but it might be a side story.
Extra Chapter: Book Club - No Work to Do
[Today's brainstorming idea: Let the Primarchs read something weird.]
[This chapter is free, okay, it really doesn't have much substance, so throw away your brain, throw away your brain, I'm only reminding you once.]
The parts marked with "*" are for close reading.
This is a small room. You can imagine it as any reading environment that you feel comfortable in, then stuff a few chairs that the original body can sit on inside and arrange them in a circle.
"So, what's this for?"
Hades reached for the Macurag dessert on the table, but couldn't reach it. Angron, sitting opposite him, gave him a push to help him reach it, while Mortarion silently stared at Angron.
He looked at Makado ahead, the old man silent, staring at him as if he wanted to throw Hades out and beat him up.
The small circle wasn't full; currently, it only contained Angron, Mortalian, Gilman, and Hades, along with the host, Makado. The good news was that Hades was familiar with all of them, so he didn't hesitate to reach out and attack the most cost-effective dessert on the table.
Makado wore a forced, insincere smile.
"Read books—to fill your empty head, Hades."
The Regent's words immediately drew rebuttals from the three Primarchs. Angron roared loudly, Guilliman tried to persuade the old man to be rational with some embarrassment, and Mortarion reached for his waist where the pistol Netherl was hanging.
Hades waved his hand dismissively, signaling the others to calm down. He guessed that Macado probably hadn't eaten yet, otherwise his attack power wouldn't be so low.
"Then come."
Hades casually handed Macardo a pastry, which Macardo naturally took, and then tossed the book he was holding to Hades.
Mortarian, standing next to Hades, looked at Macado with a mixture of surprise and disgust, as if to say, "When did Hades start associating with such a scumbag?"
Hades, preoccupied with wiping his hands and receiving the book, didn't see Mortarian's reaction. He stared at the turquoise cover and thoughtfully read aloud.
"What is 'I Don't Want to Be a Stinky Canned Food?! Abridged Version of the Original Work and a Selection of Commentary'?"
It sounds a lot like the vague and ambiguous things Hades usually likes to shout.
He looked up at Makado with some curiosity. Makado still had that same smiling face he'd had for thousands of years since he'd been called out to work overtime. He looked at Hades with a friendly expression and rolled his eyes.
"Ok."
Hades was used to it; he turned to the next page.
“Oh! Killieman, you read it.”
Hades turned to that page, which read: "Please read this section, Robert Guilliman—the king of overtime, the king of farming, the ambitious regent, the king of Macragge."
Mortarian laughed loudly, and he was sure he saw Guilliman's ever-present slick expression twitch for a moment.
Guilliman slowly and carefully took the book, reverting to his usual smiling politician demeanor at the banquet, as if laughing along with the non-existent mortals around him.
[...a very interesting misnomer, it reminds me of those folk comedies.]
Killieman took a deep breath.
However, I am not sure where the title "ambitious regent" came from.
He carefully and slyly observed the reactions of the others to his words. The true regent of the empire, Makado, was still rolling his eyes at Hades, Mortarion's hand was still swinging back and forth at his waist, and Angron was idly rummaging through the snack basket, handing a piece to Hades as he went.
No one cares about him.
It seems that not everyone possesses the extraordinary political acumen of Guilliman.
Guilliman breathed a sigh of relief at his discovery. He opened the first page, sincerely hoping that others would continue in this manner, as he knew that such books usually contained rather scathing language.
【
Fluent High Gothic language rang out, a truly talented reader.
A simple vacation.
Killieman continued looking down, his eyelids twitching almost imperceptibly.
When the swaying ship finally appeared in the skies above Terra, Hades and Macado both breathed a sigh of relief.
Hades stopped chewing and turned to look at Guilliman with a puzzled expression, while Macardo's sinister gaze pierced straight into Guilliman.
Angron looked quite interested, while Mortarion's expression darkened further.
Guilliman put down his book, innocently raised his hand, and looked at Makado.
Should I continue?
"continue."
Makado said through gritted teeth.
So Killieman continued.
*【The long warp voyage exhausted all their patience; Makado felt like he was being sucked on—】
Hey, I can't... I can't read it like that?!
Killieman said awkwardly,
These words are too vulgar for me to read.
"Let's see if it gives any hints."
Macado said calmly, but he sounded like he was gritting his teeth.
Amazingly, when Guilliman looked down again, he saw a line of small words appear on it.
You can have Hades read the following paragraphs.
Guilliman promptly passed this hot potato to Hades, who looked at it with interest, then burst into laughter.
"Hahahaha, hohahahaha, Makado, you've finally met your match!"
Hades read it aloud without hesitation.
"The long warp voyage exhausted all of their patience. Macado felt like he was swimming with a mouthful of excrement in his mouth, unable to spit it out or swallow it."
