“This is a rare opportunity. Galahad has already begun to be summoned. If you use this loophole, you can leave this cage. I will leave the power accumulated in this tower for Ling. That way, we won’t have to worry about which one to send away.”
Merlin picked up the bewildered Fou and threw her forcefully out of the tower. The red knot wrapped around Fou's claws fluttered in the wind.
"Go, Three-Eyed Cat. I'll be fine here. You are free to go and experience truly beautiful things."
Without a trace of emotion, the magician released the tiny roommate out the window. Since the roommate wasn't human, he didn't feel lonely, and besides, he had a fellow human to keep him company.
Cathy Parluge, who was suddenly thrown away, stared in astonishment at Merlin, who was getting further and further away from her. She was filled with confusion and anger, but the other party didn't care. The familiar magician was looking at her with a pleading look in his eyes.
This made Fufu even angrier. It wasn't angry because the other party threw it downstairs, because it was already used to this kind of thing.
It was angry because the other party completely disregarded its wishes and arbitrarily chose its future.
It would rather stay here with Merlin and another person than go to an unfamiliar place, meet unfamiliar people, and involuntarily become a beast that even it hates!
"Four!!! (Merlin, you better remember this!!!)" It let out the loudest howl of its life, and finally fell into the air lake and disappeared.
This scene was witnessed by Yue Zhengling through the window of the observation room.
Watching Fufu fall backwards from the tower, Yue Zhengling was still unaware of what had happened. But when he saw Fufu disappear, he finally realized what was happening and ran towards the top of the tower with the box Merlin had mentioned.
Chapter Seventy-Five: The Eye of a Thousand Miles
Le Zhengling, who had run back to the top of the tower, looked at Merlin, who was standing calmly by the railing, and didn't know how to start a conversation.
Is it his fault for throwing Fufu down? But it's no different from his usual behavior.
When asked why he drove Fufu away, he knew the reason himself.
She questioned him about why he hadn't consulted her, but she felt she had no right to do so.
"Oh my, you don't seem surprised at all..."
Looking at Yue Zhengling, who was standing quietly at the top of the stairs, Merlin gave a faint smile.
"I thought you were going to storm up to me and beat me up!"
Upon hearing Merlin speak, Yue Zhengling put the box she was carrying on the table before walking to his side and looking at the scenery outside the tower.
"I knew this day would come, but I didn't expect it to happen today." He replied to Merlin in the same calm tone.
During this peaceful period, Yue Zhengling's personality became very stable. No matter what happened, he didn't have many emotional fluctuations. He knew this was abnormal, but he didn't care.
Because he believed this change wouldn't last forever, and the reason he thought so was because he had a premonition.
"Merlin, there are no other people here besides us. Let's have a public talk." Le Zhengling said calmly, almost ruthlessly.
Merlin didn't speak, but simply looked up at the azure sky.
Time passed slowly, and darkness fell over the sky, dotted with stars. Finally, Merlin spoke a single word: "Good."
This is good; it contains many meanings.
It's good to see Cathy Parluge finally enter the outside world and be taken in by Chaldea.
There was also the good idea of agreeing to a detailed discussion with Yue Zheng to uncover some mysteries between the two parties.
The two stood side by side in front of the fence. This time, Merlin spoke first: "You mentioned before that Cathy Parlug would lose all her rationality and become an ordinary beast, right?"
He still hasn't forgotten some of the information that Le Zhengling revealed at that tea party. The reason he didn't listen at the time was because Cathy Parluge was still there, and that information about the future was of no use to her, so Merlin changed the subject.
Now that it's just the two of them left, they can speak more freely.
“Yes, since you’ve already thrown it out, it proves you’ve discovered something, right?” Looking at the distant scenery as well, Yue Zhengling didn’t answer Merlin directly, but instead answered the question with a question.
"You know where Cathy Parluge is going?" Although Merlin had guessed before, he was still very surprised by the information revealed by the other party in just a few words.
"The Chaldea Security Organization, also known as the Human Order Preservation Guarantee Organization Chaldea or Chaldea for short. Fufu should have arrived there by now."
One advantage of being a time traveler is that you have foresight and can spoil the plot at will. Of course, Yue Zhengling is selective about who he spoils the plot for. At least he can guarantee that even if Uncle Fuabro and Merlin knew the plot, they wouldn't do anything to him.
"Your clairvoyance, is it the kind that can see into the future?" Merlin turned his head and looked at his roommate beside him.
“I’ll reiterate, I don’t have clairvoyance. I don’t possess any of the abilities of you Grand Magicians,” Yue Zhengling replied in a very serious voice.
"And speaking of seeing the future, whether it's you, King Solomon, or the Wise King, your clairvoyance can see a part of the future, right? Don't tell me your clairvoyance can only see the present. If that were really the case, you wouldn't have sent Fufu away."
Hearing this, Merlin unconsciously tightened his grip on the railing, then paused for a moment before saying, "The basic requirement to become a Grand Magus is indeed to have clairvoyance, but are you really sure you don't have it?"
"This is not the issue we're discussing today." In fact, Yue Zhengling was already somewhat aware of it. Although he had always believed that he did not have future vision, ever since his soul entered Avalon, his eyes, or rather, the part of the magic circuits that belonged to his eyes, seemed to have some problems.
"No, Ling, this is about something very important. The ability to see far is used to observe the world and then guide its development to avoid unnecessary outcomes, so I hope you will answer me seriously: do you have the ability to see far?"
A thousand-mile eye—an eye that can see far away even from this place.
Since ancient times, prayer masters, entrusted with the land by the gods to protect human life, have been required to possess certain powers.
No matter how complex a magic circuit is, or how powerful a magician can manipulate magic formulas, a magician without this "eye" cannot be called the highest-ranking, or what Ling calls a Grand Magician.
Merlin's own Clairvoyance is "the eye that can see through the world."
He was born with the ability to see through everything in the world, even without going anywhere, if he were in the same era.
Among magicians older than Merlin, there are also those who can see the past and foresee the future, and they also occupy the highest positions.
According to Merlin's plan, whether Yue Zhengling has clairvoyance or not will lead him down two different paths in his subsequent training.
If so, Merlin would not hesitate to tell him his plan directly, but he would not teach him anything else, because the holder of the clairvoyance must grow according to his own path, or rather, his own experience, in order to shoulder the responsibilities of the future.
But that responsibility was too heavy, and Merlin didn't want this fellow human to suffer the same fate.
If not, then he can only remain silent and wholeheartedly provide Le Zhengling with comprehensive guidance, so that he, who possesses absolute "possibility," can have more choices for the future.
"...I don't know." In the end, that was all Yue Zhengling said.
Merlin breathed a sigh of relief, but also felt a little disappointed. He gave a complicated smile and said softly, "That's fine too. After all, the more you know, the more painful it is. Even someone as carefree as me sometimes can't help but get involved in things that might lead to my death."
He patted the railing. "I came here to see the end of humanity, but I can't help but want to look a little longer, a little longer."
Le Zhengling smiled slightly, "Then it proves that you really love humans very much, which is why you want to see them for longer."
Upon hearing this answer, Merlin was taken aback. He was basically a fairy who only observed the humans who continued to survive, but had he unknowingly fallen in love with them?
Chapter Seventy-Six: The Story of That Doctor
"What, do you think it's strange that you would fall in love with a [human]?" Yue Zhengling looked at Merlin, who was in a daze, with a look that showed he had seen through him. Then, he spoke in a tone that seemed to be the opposite of his own.
"You are clearly an outsider to the human race, yet you have left many traces in human society. Even after coming to Avalon, you said you would observe and wait, but you couldn't help but worry. Isn't that love?"
If "recognition" is the foundation and pinnacle of magic, then clairvoyant magicians would have attained the truth from birth.
But they are all heretics born for humanity, yet unable to acquire human values.
Strangely, however, these magicians, even those who were heretics, all fell in love with the human race.
Merlin, who chose to observe humanity, did so; Solomon, who chose to become human, did so; the High King, who returned from his journey to immortality, did so; and even the Queen, who could only protect everything until the very end, did so as well.
"You have the awareness of being different, yet you unconsciously fall in love with humans, but you can't integrate into that group. That's your tragedy."
At this point, Le Zhengling's gaze turned gloomy. "But it's better not to integrate into that group, because that way, you won't have to endure those deceptions, betrayals, or even mutual destruction."
"And ultimately, Merlin, what you love is the human race, that's why you're so nervous, right?"
"You threw Fufu out so you could see her better, right?"
"After all, your clairvoyance isn't omnipotent. Don't try to shoulder everything. Both you and Romani have done enough."
As they were talking, Yue Zhengling dropped another bombshell.
Merlin's eyes widened in surprise.
“Your clairvoyance allows you to glimpse the future from time to time, but you have no idea how that future will develop. That’s why you let Fufu see it clearly for you.”
Unable to resist the urge to spoil the plot, Yue Zhengling revealed a mischievous smile.
"All of you Grand Mages are, in the end, mages, not sorcerers. Even if you know about the existence of parallel worlds, you can only get some information from your counterparts. And even then, it would take a huge price for a Nightmare with special abilities like you to do it."
After sharing his previous conjectures, Yue Zhengling watched with satisfaction as Merlin's increasingly surprised expression grew.
"Dreams are a very mysterious thing. In my previous life... I once heard a hypothesis that all the dreams in the world are connected, which may be one of the reasons for the birth of Alaya."
"Just like if all the computers in the world were connected to the Internet simultaneously, and there were little chance of time zone differences, disconnections, or lag, then a new consciousness would be born."
At this point, Yue Zhengling stopped talking; that was a story from another world.
"In short, the whole world in the dream includes parallel worlds, so you can get information about the burning of humanity from a woman in one of those worlds."
Merlin did not deny it, but said, "That's precisely why I want to stop it."
Upon hearing this answer, Yue Zhengling raised an eyebrow.
Let me tell you a story—
Starting with this sentence, Yue Zhengling decided to make everything clear.
“From the moment a man is born, he is a king who hears the voice of the Lord; like a robot, he governs the world in a dull and self-evident way.”
Le Zhengling spoke slowly in his exceptionally pleasant voice.
"He gained the Lord's approval and was crowned the King of Magic, but was betrayed by the one he loved."
Upon hearing this, Merlin's gaze suddenly sharpened; he had already recognized who Yue Zhengling was referring to.
"To resolve this torment, and to live as a human being, the man answered the call of the Holy Grail. And having won the war, his only wish was to live as an ordinary person."
Le Zhengling looked into Merlin's eyes and spoke with an unprecedented seriousness.
However, this wish was ultimately not fulfilled.
Merlin released his hands from the railing, took out his staff and waved it around. The distant tower seemed to be transported into a dream, shrouded in thick fog.
"In the instant the crown's light was stripped away, the man saw the future of humanity, a future where human reason was burned away."
Upon hearing the powerful phrase "human reason burned away," Merlin, seemingly afraid of missing even the slightest detail, stared intently at Yue Zhengling with all his might.
"To avoid that future, the man decided to work hard step by step, as an ordinary person who had lost the favor of the Lord."
"He had seen all sorts of sights: the fire in Fuyuki, the evil dragon of France, the catastrophe in Rome, the storms of the Endless Sea, the black fog of Britain, the war of the gods in America, the Round Table of Camelot, and the original sin of Babylon."
As Yue Zhengling quietly recounted her story, she couldn't help but become emotional, filled with respect and reluctance for the man she had witnessed at the time.
"And, the last Grand Temple of Time."
Upon hearing the term "Grand Temple of Time," Merlin finally understood everything. He finally realized why he had felt something was amiss while observing the events unfolding outside.
That's because he can't see the past! If some beings start planning from the past, then he, who can only see the present, has no way to interfere!
But things are different now; there's still a chance!
"The moment of parting finally arrived. The man had no complaints about his fate, even though he would be cast into an abyss that even hell could not reach."
Remembering the doctor's final farewell, and the Noble Phantasm that should never have been activated, Yue Zhengling quietly closed her eyes.
"That is nothingness, a despair with absolutely no way back. But he simply took off his last ring and smiled faintly."
Upon hearing this, Merlin even forgot to breathe. All he wanted to do was go and see what the person Yue Zhengling was talking about was doing and why he had made that choice.
"In his previous life, that man didn't live for himself for a single second. Starting over, he chose the same path. This is the choice of the man named Romani Archman."
After the story was finished, both the narrator and the listener fell silent.
The distant tower, shrouded in thick fog, kept out all possible prying eyes from the world.
However, this wasn't the end of it. Having composed himself, Yue Zhengling opened his eyes again, staring directly at Merlin.
"Deep love and unforgettable hatred are often only a few inches apart."
"But the Human Incineration Goetia is based on love. So, Merlin, will you, because of this, ultimately become human evil, equivalent to human love?"
Chapter Seventy-Seven: Speculation about the Beast
"Hahaha, how could that be~" Merlin laughed calmly upon hearing the question.
“Beast.” Le Zhengling uttered a single word, and Merlin couldn’t calm down.
“The Human Order Burning Style Goetia is Beast I. Do you understand what I mean?” Yue Zhengling looked at Merlin with an incredibly complicated expression. “What do you think this so-called Goetia is?”
Before Merlin could speak, he directly revealed the answer: "That is the aggregate of the seventy-two demon gods, who served as King Solomon's familiar and accompanied him for half his life."
"However, King Solomon at that time, who had received the Ten Commandments, was merely a machine called 'King' who could hear the voice of God and live by obeying His guidance. He had no emotions in his heart and was a non-human being who had been deprived of the freedom to feel human sorrow and joy."
At this point, a subtle, almost imperceptible eeriness crept into Yue Zhengling's voice.
