Chapter 50 Making Floo Powder
Chapter 50 Making Floo Powder
Seeing this, Gandalf couldn't help but ask, "Duir, are you sure? You want to make this your territory?"
Upon hearing this, Thorin, who was standing nearby, also looked up at Dui.
In Middle-earth, powerful individuals establish their own strongholds or territories. It is surprising that powerful wizards like Gandalf and Duir do not yet have their own spheres of influence.
Dui shook his head. "It's not really territory, just a base where we can stop and rest whenever we want."
"Then you need to be mentally prepared. When news of the reappearance of the Tower of Amonsur spreads throughout the wasteland, many forces will be watching you, some with good intentions and some with malice. At the same time, many people will come to you seeking refuge. These are all things you will have to face in the future."
Gandalf earnestly reminded Dui.
Upon hearing Gandalf's words, Dui frowned.
He hadn't expected that simply setting up a base would cause so much trouble, making him somewhat regretful of making the decision so quickly.
However, he was unwilling to give up this place.
So we could only walk and observe as we went.
Bilbo and his dwarves finally returned from their tour of the tower. One of the dwarves, panting heavily, collapsed onto a sofa, exclaiming, "Sixty floors! A whole sixty floors! I'm exhausted!"
"Yeah, climbing this tall building is more tiring than killing 60 orcs!"
"Honestly, they should build an elevator here, otherwise climbing all these floors is exhausting!"
The dwarves offered their opinions one after another.
Bilbo was also panting, but looked quite excited. He came up to Duy and excitedly shared, "Duy, we just climbed all the way to the top of the tower! The top is so high, it felt like we could reach out and touch the clouds, and we could see the main road below and even further away!"
"Oh, by the way, we also saw a huge stone platform at the top of the tower. There was a depression in the center of the platform, and Balin said that was where the True Knowledge Crystal was placed..."
Dui was somewhat taken aback by what the dwarves and Bilbo were saying.
This tower has sixty floors! If you really climbed up the stone steps one by one, you'd be exhausted.
If he really wants to live here, he'll have to consider installing an elevator.
With that in mind, Dui began to consult the dwarves. After all, he had seen the dwarves' very complex elevators and pulley systems when he was in the Blue Mountains, which could reach depths of thousands of meters underground, and were no less impressive than the elevators in his previous life.
The dwarves did not disappoint Dui, saying it was a minor issue and that they could help design and build an automatic staircase for the tower after the Lonely Mountain mission was completed.
However, Dui had another plan: he intended to install a fireplace on each floor and then connect all the fireplaces together to form a local Filo network.
This way, you can go directly to a floor by using the fireplace.
The only downside is that it uses up a lot of Floo powder.
Late at night, the full moon shines brightly.
Dui arrived at the top of the thousand-foot-high tower for the first time.
This is a semi-enclosed lookout tower. Standing on the lookout tower, to the east is an endless expanse of desolate plains, to the south are the Mosquito Marsh and the East-West Road, to the west are the Chet Forest and the town of Buri, and to the north are rolling hills.
The wind howled all around, and the clouds were level with the tower. Looking up at the sky, the stars and the moon seemed within reach.
In the center of the observation deck is a huge stone platform with a depression in the center, which was once used to hold the True Knowledge Crystal.
The True Knowledge Crystal is a treasure crafted by elven artisans. It allows the user to see distant things without being disturbed by terrain or buildings, and also to see scenes from the past.
After the destruction of the Númenórean Empire, Erendir brought seven True Knowledge Stones to Middle-earth. He left three of them in the kingdom of Arnor and gave the other four to his sons who ruled in the south, to use for exchanging information and strengthening ties.
The three True Knowledge Crystals of the Kingdom of Arno were placed in three important locations within the kingdom, one of which was the Tower of Amonsur at the Peak of Wind and Clouds.
These knowledge crystals were scattered and lost after the fall of the Kingdom of Arno.
One of them fell into the hands of the Demon King Sauron, and the other into the hands of the white-robed wizard Saruman. They used the True Knowledge Crystals in their hands to observe the situation throughout Middle-earth, which could be said to be able to make decisions from afar.
"If I have the chance, I'd really like to get my hands on a Knowledge Crystal to study." Dui looked at the empty groove in the stone table, filled with curiosity about the Knowledge Crystal known as Palantir.
After admiring the top of the tower, Dui began his formal work.
He took out a bag of moonstones and placed it on the stone platform to receive the moonlight.
Here, the moonlight seemed even brighter, shining on the moonstone and refracting a more dazzling light, illuminating the entire top of the tower.
Moonstone absorbs moonlight, becoming even brighter and more dazzling, emitting a pale blue-silver glow, as if it were the essence of moonlight condensed.
When the moon was at its brightest at midnight, Dui took out snake fangs, spider silk, and moonstone, mixed them in a certain proportion, and put them into a crucible. He then used his magic wand to inscribe runes symbolizing power and creation on the bottom of the crucible, and then used magical flames to ignite the mixture in the crucible, which burned continuously.
Under the scorching heat of the flames, the snake fangs and spider silk were burned to ashes, and the dazzling moonstone shattered into countless tiny particles, losing its brilliance.
Once the fire was almost burned out, Dui extinguished the flames and used a mortar and pestle to grind the mixture of snake fangs, spider silk, and moonstone into powder.
Only a shiny, silvery-gray powder remained in the mortar; this was Floo powder.
Having successfully created Floo Powder, Dui wanted to test its performance.
There happened to be a beacon tower at the top of the tower, which looked similar to a fireplace, so Dui simply cast a spell to connect it to the fireplace downstairs.
With a wave of his hand, Dui lit the beacon tower, grabbed a handful of Floo Powder, and sprinkled it onto the flames, which instantly turned green.
Looking at the burning flames, Dui tried to reach out his hand. He wasn't burned by the flames; instead, he felt a cool sensation.
Seeing this, Dui no longer hesitated and stepped into the flames.
The next second, he felt a dizzying sensation and Dui appeared in the fireplace on the first floor.
"Cough cough cough..." Dui's eyes were a little hard to open because of the cigarette ash.
The Floo Powder works very well, the only downside is that it produces too much ash, leaving you covered in soot after teleporting.
"Looks like you've successfully made Floo Powder?" Gandalf, his blue eyes sparkling, sat chuckled on the sofa in front of the fireplace, smoking his pipe.
He seemed to have known all along that Dui would succeed tonight and was waiting here specifically for him.
Dui pulled a bottle of Floo Powder from his pocket and invited with a smile, "Gandalf, how about taking a long trip?"
Gandalf's eyes lit up at the news, and he stood up eagerly. "I can't wait!"
"Prancing Horse Inn!"
"Prancing Horse Inn!"
Two green lights flashed one after the other, and the living room on the first floor, now empty and quiet, fell silent.
